'HELP FOR HEROES' ANNOUNCED AS OFFICIAL CHARITY FOR THE 2008 DERBY FESTIVAL

HELP FOR HEROES’ ANNOUNCED AS OFFICIAL CHARITY FOR THE 2008 DERBY FESTIVAL

‘Help for Heroes’ was launched on October 1, 2007, and is a charity that provides practical help for the men and women of the Armed Forces who have been wounded while serving in the current conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan.

This immensely worthwhile charity is currently raising money for a much needed swimming pool and gym complex at Headley Court in Surrey, the tri-service rehabilitation centre next door to Epsom that provides invaluable support for our injured servicemen and women.

Since the launch of the charity, the raised funds are in excess of £4 million.

The Derby Festival is honoured to be supporting such a worthwhile cause.

Nick Blofeld, Managing Director of Epsom Downs Racecourse, commented: “We are thrilled to be able to assist ‘Help for Heroes’.

“With the spire of Headley Court visible from the Grandstand at Epsom Downs Racecourse and therefore constantly in our minds, we cannot not think of a better way to support our local community. We are hoping that the Derby crowds will dig deep and give generously to the bucket collectors and therefore raise plenty of funds to help these incredibly brave patients.”
