LADY DARSHAN PLEASES MOORE AHEAD OF StanJames.com 1000 GUINEAS

LADY DARSHAN PREPS WELL BEFORE 1000 GUINEAS

Stan Moore believes that his Group One Fillies’ Mile runner-up Lady Darshaan is “the forgotten horse” ahead of the £400,000 StanJames.com 1000 Guineas, staged over a mile at Newmarket on Sunday, 2nd May.

Lady Darshaan, a 40/1 shot with sponsor Stan James, went down by only three quarters of a length in the prestigious Fillies’ Mile at Ascot in September despite taking an unintentional whack across the nose from Neil Callan, rider of the victorious Hibaayeb.

Moore has opted to take his charge straight to the StanJames.com 1000 Guineas without a prep run and is confident that the High Chaparral half-sister to Group One-winning sprinter Total Gallery will be fully primed for her Classic date.

The Upper Lambourn trainer revealed today: “Lady Darshaan has come on well and did a nice piece of work over at Richard Hannon’s place on Saturday morning. It is great that Richard lets us do that and she might go back over there one more time - maybe on Sunday - and then it will be straight to the StanJames.com 1000 Guineas from there.

“We have been a little bit behind because of the weather but the way she worked, I think there is every chance she will be in good form come the Guineas. She has done fantastic and although she is not 100 per cent at this moment, she is not far off it. She will be there with a fighting chance.

“I think she is the forgotten filly. I have another filly, Kinky Afro, who was just beaten a short-head in the German 1,000 Guineas trial behind the best filly in Germany. Now, the German Guineas itself is not going to be much different to the trial, so that in itself gives me a bit of reason for optimism because Lady Darshaan is different gear to Kinky Afro. They are chalk and cheese - Kinky Afro could not work with Lady Darshaan.

“She will run in the StanJames.com 1000 Guineas and hopefully then the Irish 1,000 Guineas. She is entered in the Irish Oaks but I think a mile and a half might be pushing her - 10 furlongs could prove to be her ideal trip.

“I would say she would be better on fast ground, more so than if it was soft.”

Special Duty, trained by Criquette Head-Maarek and successful in last season’s Group One Electrolux Cheveley Park Stakes at Newmarket, is the current 7/2 favourite with Stan James.

The sponsor makes the Mick Channon-trained Music Show its 6/1 second-favourite following the filly’s victory in the Group Three Leslie Harrison Memorial Nell Gwyn Stakes on the Rowley Mile last Wednesday.
