BALLYDOYLE CONTENDER FOR THE 2010 INVESTEC DERBY

111-1 CAPE BLANCO (IRE) Galileo (IRE) - Laurel Delight (Presidium)
Owners, Derrick Smith, Sue Magnier, Michael Tabor.

Trainer: Aidan O'Brien IRE

Breeder: Jack Ronan & Des Vere Hunt Farms

The only unbeaten horse going into the 2010 Investec Derby, Cape Blanco is a son of
2001 Derby victor Galileo and out of Laurel Delight, a four-time winner over five furlongs for Jack Berry in the 1990s, meaning that he is a half-brother to US Grade
Two winner Mr O’Brien. A 330,000 guineas yearling, he ran three times as a juvenile,
landing a maiden over seven furlongs at Fairyhouse in June in workmanlike fashion
before going on to take the Group Three Tyros Stakes over the same distance at Leopardstown the following month by an impressive three and a half lengths.

His two-year-old season ended with a step up to Group Two company when he
contested the Futurity Stakes back over seven furlongs at Fairyhouse on August 22.
Starting at 1/5, he quickened well in the final furlong to register a length and a
quarter triumph over Mister Tee. This season began at York on May 13 when he
contested the Group Two totesport.com Dante Stakes over 10 furlongs, recognised as
one of the best trial for the Investec Derby. In the York contest, he was committed early by Johnny Murtagh, hitting the front two furlongs out, but stayed on
resolutely to defeat fellow Investec Derby aspirant Workforce by three and a quarter lengths. Race Record: Starts: 4; 1st: 4; 2: -; 3:- Win & Place Prize Money: £202,401
