was 16 years old, achieving professional ‘Bloodhorse Literacy’ a horseman of the
highest calibre. Married to Catherine 25 June 1982, with two children, Sinead and Aisling. Major races won; 2,000 Guineas, Irish Oaks, Prix de l’ Abbaye, Heinz 57 Phoenix S. A Master Craftsman.

A facinating insight into the life and times of SEA THE STARS and all those who came to be close to him throughout his racing career. A must read, for all those out
there who are seeking to find direction and meaning within the worldwide sport of horseracing.

“The moment when Sea The Stars burst clear of his rivals to win the 2009 Prix de L’Arc de Triomphe at Longchamp was a landmark in the history of horseracing.

“The Irish-trained colt-first horse ever to win the 2,000 Guineas, Derby and Arc-became one of the true icons of the sport, his achievements inviting comparison with legends like SEA BIRD, NIJINSKY and MILL REEF. For many in the racing world he was, quite simply, the finest racehorse ever.

“SEA THE STARS: The story of a perfect racehorse describes his stellar career as it unfolded in the pages of the Racing Post, whose unrivaled team of writers and acclaimed photographer Edward Whitaker covered every move of the colt’s progress from promising prospect to all-time superstar.

“It also records the magical effect which a great racehorse exerts on those close by-on his young owner Christopher Tsui, so overcome with excitement when SEA THE STARS won the Eclipse Stakes, that he passed out; on his breeder Ling Tsui , who never saw the horse in the flesh but watched the races from her home in Hong Kong; on his trainer John Oxx and ageless jockey Mick Kinane; and on the staff in Oxx’s stable.

“We meet the groom who cared for SEA THE STARS every day and could not bear the thought of that head no longer poking out of the box door for his daily apple; the Brazilian exercise rider for whom SEA THE STARS was ‘my best friend’; the equine masseuse who eased the colt’s muscles after each big-race victory; the horseman who used his revolutionary breaking -in procedure to give the raw yearling his early education.

“Those closely involved and those who could only marvel from the other side of the running rail were unanimous in their assessment of SEA THE STARS. He was a perfect racehorse.”

JOHN OXX “He’s got the pedigree, the looks, that tremendous athletic frame, the temperament and then the record. When you put it all together, no breeder could hope to breed a better horse 300 years down the line from the development of the thoroughbred, and that’s what he represents to me: the ultimate development of the thoroughbred species.”
