NEWMARKET RACECOURSES HOST THE ELECTROLUX CHEVELEY PARK STAKES ON FRIDAY OCTOBER 1 2010
SPECIAL DUTY HALF-SISTER AMONG 65 TWO YEAR OLD FILLIES FOR ELECTROLUX CHEVELEY PARK STAKES
SHADWELL MIDDLE PARK STAKES ATTRACTS 55 TWO YEAR OLD COLTS
No current trainer can match Criquette Head-Maarek’s record of four victories in the £160,000 Group One Electrolux Cheveley Park Stakes and the French trainer is considering another raid across the Channel for the prestigious six-furlong contest at Newmarket on Friday, 1st October.
A trio of entries from the Chantilly handler includes the unraced Exemplify, whose half-sister Special Duty posted a comprehensive victory in last year’s race before returning to the Rowley Mile to triumph in the Group One 1000 Guineas.
The daughter of Dansili may be joined by impressive debut winner Helleborine, a full-sister to Head-Maarek’s Group One-winning sprinter African Rose, and Dynaformer filly Starformer, whose dam Etoile Montante also scored in Group One company for the trainer. All three two-year-old fillies were home-bred by Prince Khalid Abdulla’s Juddmonte Farms.
Head-Maarek revealed: “Exemplify is on course to make her debut at Deauville soon, although we have yet to finalise when she will run. She looks a nice filly at the moment and she goes well in her work.
“I would say that she has more stamina than Special Duty and I would think that she will stay further in time, even at this stage of her career, and we might start her off over seven furlongs.
“She worked very nicely on Tuesday morning and I am hopeful that she can become a nice prospect, but we will obviously know more about her after her debut.
“Helleborine won very easily first time out and she will hopefully run in a Listed race over seven furlongs at Deauville at the end of the month.
“African Rose showed plenty of speed in her races but I also get the impression that Helleborine will get further.
“Starformer is out of Etoile Montante, with whom I won the Prix de la Foret. She is the first of her produce that I have trained and, while the dam hasn’t done much as a broodmare yet, this filly gives me a nice feel and she might well start off at Deauville as well.
“It’s early days but we have made the entries and they are three nice fillies, all with top pedigrees. Newmarket has always been a special course for me and I love my visits to England, so hopefully one of them can make the journey over in October.”
This year’s Electrolux Cheveley Park Stakes has attracted a total of 65 juvenile fillies including the Richard Hannon-trained Memory, who is the current ante-post favourite for next year’s 1000 Guineas following exhilarating wins in the Group Three Albany Stakes at Royal Ascot and the Group Two Irish Thoroughbred Marketing Cherry Hinton Stakes at Newmarket’s Champagne Lanson July Festival.
The Michael Bell-trained Margot Did went down by a head to Memory at Royal Ascot and the two could reoppose on the Rowley Mile, while Maqaasid, successful in the Group Two Queen Mary Stakes at Royal Ascot, is one of three contenders from the stable of John Gosden.
A total of 13 Irish-trained entries include the Kevin Prendergast-trained Seeharn, who posted a comfortable success in a six-furlong Listed contest at the Curragh, Group Three winner Radharcnafarraige, from the stable of Jim Bolger, and debut winner So Stylish, one of nine entries from Aidan O’Brien.
Two-year-old colts will also have the chance to aim for Group One glory at Newmarket on Friday, 1st October, in the £160,000 Shadwell Middle Park Stakes and a total of 55 entries have been received for the six-furlong contest.
Richard Hannon has enjoyed phenomenal success with his juveniles so far this term and the East Everleigh handler may represented by Group Two Coventry Stakes victor Strong Suit as well as fellow Group Two winners Libranno and King Torus, who triumphed in the TNT July Stakes and the 32Red.com Superlative Stakes respectively at the Champagne Lanson July Festival.
Impressive Listed Chesham Stakes scorer Zaidan could step down to six furlongs for Clive Brittain, while Coventry Stakes runner-up Elzaam may bid to atone for a disappointing third behind Libranno in the TNT July Stakes.
Other notable entries include the Ed McMahon-trained Temple Meads, who triumphed in the Weatherbys Super Sprint at Newbury on Saturday, the Richard Fahey-trained pair of Wootton Basset and Marine Commando, and Formosina, who landed the Group Two Railway Stakes for Jeremy Noseda.
The 15 Irish-trained entries are dominated by Aidan O’Brien, who has engaged 13 colts including Listed scorer Zoffany and Samuel Morse, who was second to the Kevin Prendergast-trained Dunboyne Express in the Group Three Anglesey Stakes at the Curragh on Sunday.
